Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's an outstandingly practical choice for families that are growing and the UPPAbaby makes one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers on the market.

If you prefer a more compact, lightweight double, consider the egg2 which folds to the size of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double running stroller by adding 2 carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers were awed by how sleek and simple it was to carry, even when fully loaded with children.

Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, however- if your children are of the same age or stage they might still argue over who rides in which seat. If they're at different heights then the tandem model could be best for them, as it lets them face each other.

Tandem

While side-by-side models are more appropriate for siblings with similar ages, tandem lightweight double pushchairs are a different kind of pushchair with their own appeal. Tandem lightweight double pushchairs will typically make tighter turns than side-by-side models, however, they can be more difficult to drive over uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.

A convertible double buggy is an additional option. It is initially one but you can also add adapters to make it double. These can include a second seat or carrycot in front or children can sit side-by-side. Some may have the option of adding a buggyboard, which assists an older child to keep pace with younger siblings or brothers.

It's worth bearing in mind that these strollers aren't as efficient in navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a lot of shopping. Although it's much easier to turn the stroller around on a small curved path, this can be a hassle. Some are more easy to turn than others, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are fantastic because they can be adjusted to the changing needs of families. They often start out as single buggies, and come with adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot, or (in some cases) the car seat to the frame. Some can be converted to a single buggie when your older child starts to walk or chooses to ride a buggyboard.
